Day centre and education in Zambia

The Kondwa Day Centre, a centre for orphans and vulnerable children who are affected by HIV/AIDS, is located just outside Zambia’s capitol. The centre also assists families and single moms.

Kondwa Day Centre was founded in September 2000. Angela Malik is in charge of day-to-day operations and is assisted by the community of Missionary Sisters for Africa, an international congregation. The Day Centre is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Centre also serves lunch to roughly 100 local children.

"I work with children aged five to seven, and despite the age difference, we share the same thing: love."

Elis M. Makai, teacher

Orange Babies supports the Day Centre by meeting the daily needs. Orange Babies also pays the recurring charges (water, electricity). A nursery was built in 2009 for the children of Ng’ombe and the surrounding area. The contact between orphans and HIV-positive children will lead to more understanding in the neighbouring community.

Orange Babies also contributed to the construction of the Kachele primary school. It offers the children from the Kondwa day care pre-school, enabling them to easily make the transition to primary school. More classrooms are need, which should ultimately lead to a complete primary school.
